I've been trying hard to coordinate my jumping but it is difficult. Does any one have a good tip for me?
Jumping rope is a great workout and can be done just about anywhere anytime and is easily portable.
Here are a few ideas for you:
Check to be sure you have the right length of a rope- not too long or too short. Sometimes the ropes are too long making it hard to work and tripping your feet.
Try jogging when you jump rope first until you get the hang of it and then jump with both legs.
When you do jump with both legs you don't have to jump very high- just an inch or two to clear the rope under your feet. This will save some energy too.
This sounds funny- but try not to think about it too much. Just go with it.
Practice- practice- practice. You'll get it and don't worry what others think when you are learning. I bet they can't do it.
Thanks! What should be the length of my rope if i'm 5'2?
I'm not exactly sure without looking at the packaging label. Usually their are 8 foot ropes, 9 foot ropes, etc. I would go for a shorter size one. If you buy one at a sporting goods store look at the label for the appropriate size for your height.
to get the correct size you should stand on the middle of the rope. The ends of the handles should come close to your armpits.
I LOVE to jump rope... it's one of my staple endurance workouts. I'll go 35 minutes a pop without stopping. I mix up the foot-work to make it more fun and keep me focus. Try these steps.. r=right foot l=left foot
rlrlrlrlrlrlrl - basically running in place while jumping
rrllrrllrrllrrll - this is my "catching breath" step
rrlrllrlrrlrllrl
rrlrlrllrlrlrrlrlrllrlrl
both feet at once...
Again... this is great.. I also jump rope for 3 minute intervals curing my endurance-weight routine... i love it.
