@ the bottom of a mt. impossible with concrete loafers

Hello every one,
My name is Corey and I just joined both a AF and here on AH.
Right now I feel I am at the bottom of an unclimbable Mt. with a pair of concrete loafers on.
I am very over weight and out of shape. If you would like to know more I started a blog a few weeks back that goes into more detail about me and my story so far. You can check it our here Lose LB's or Die

I was wondering about the benefits of a support group and how about getting one or at least how to find friends willing to help support and help me. I definitely feel my battle is all on my own and always has been. Which is Ok that I am on my own I am at the mind set that I have to change NOW. On the other hand I am fearful because I can not fail again.
Thanks for any input

These boards are a great place to come for support and encouragement.

And although you feel you are at the bottom of the mountain with cement loafers, remember that every journey begins with a single step. And you took it. You joined. Applause

Stop looking at the big picture-- "I have a zillion pounds to lose". Start with manageable goals.

Figure out your caloric intake on the Nutrition planner, start small " I want to go 10 minutes on the treadmill/stationary bike/recombant bike/elliptical" "Now, I want to go 12 minutes, 15 minutes, 18 minutes, 20"-- whatever is comfortable for you

And by comfortable I mean challenging, sweat inducing, heart beat raising, tiring (at first!)-- but not overwhelming.

I know many swear by OA (Overeaters Anonymous) as a help-- and for some it can, I am sure- I am not a joiner.

Hang in there-- just because it looks like a mountain, doesn't mean it is insurmoutable. Just take it one step at a time. We all need an occasional shurpa to help us along the way.Wink

Welcome Corey!! I am so happy you have joined our AF and AH family! You will find no judgement here. Just support and encouragement!
When I started my journey, I was where you are now. I weighed almost 440 pounds and struggling to just get through a day. Today I am down over 200 pounds and truly loving life!
I won't lie to you and say it has been easy. But the time seemed to have flown by. I joined ATF March 2008. I had no idea how long it would take to lose the amount of weight I had to lose. Once I got started, how long didn't seem to matter anymore. What became important was how much better I started to feel in a few short weeks. I felt hopeful for the first time in my life.
Vicki is right. Try not to look at the whole picture so much. Just take it a day at a time, a step at a time and "Just Move"! It will get easier each week.
If someone had told me it would take over two years to lose what I have lost so far, I would have been terrified. Now that I have actually experienced it, I wonder where did the time go? Getting healthy and reaching your goals won't happen overnight. But it will happen! Best wishes to you my friend.
Always, Susan

Wow Thanks for all the responses and support. I have been trying to figure out and use most of the resources that are available here on AH. It really is nice the way that they have every thing set out for you to just basically fill in and they give you the results.
I guess I just have problems meeting supportive friends.
Thanks

So Corey~ how ya doin?
My name is Julie, and I am new too. Kind of scary at first, isn't it? But I made my first journey into AF today, and I have my first meeting with a trainer on Monday the 29th.
I love it, and would love to be your friend. Maybe we can keep each other on the ball!
Glad you're here! Happy

Corey,

I just want to say Good Job and I really mean it. I have struggled with weight my entire life and I started my Anytime fitness Journey in June and have lost about 35lbs and I do track my food intake on this website. I love going to the gym b/c you are not looked at like you don't belong... I read your blog and 35lbs in 6 weeks way to go! No more blood pressure meds again way to go.... You really have something to be proud of! If you don't watch the Biggest Loser show I suggest it, Biggest Loser is the only show I watch and I love it. It is real people with real stories and I find it helps keep me motivated... Anyway stay strong you are on the right path! and once again Great Job!!!!!!!!!
