So I had my health assesment yesterday where I go through all the body workouts with a personal trainer and then I met with another gentleman today to go over BMR etc. Along with going over everything he offered me some prices and info on getting set up with a personal trainer. I really want to do. I was 5'10 and 145 when wet, up until 8 years ago when I got pregnant and then I never lost the weight. I am now welllll over that poundage, and I feel I need the help. I think a personal trainer would be perfect for me as I have tried curves and weight watchers etc to no avail. I would sign up right away but the problem that I know I am going to have is to convince my husband to let me do it. Any suggestions on how i can convince my husband to justify the cost?
Thank you in advance!!
having a trainer can keep you going to the gym. It takes 6 months to form a good habit and when I had my trainer I told her I would never stand her up with a lame excuse and that got me to the gym 3 times a week even when I had major anxiety around other people. If not for the trainer I highly doubt I would have had the guts and the mental ability to keep going and lose all the weight I have.
I have been going to my trainer for over two years and don't know that I will ever completely give up the trainer. He keeps me from getting bored, helps me with my nutrition, encourages me when I get down on myself for a bad week, he pushes me harder than I would ever push myself and he works with my lack of desire to do cardio....he gives me alternatives to spending so much time on the elliptical and/or the treadmill. Jumping Rope is his new torture of choice that gets mixed in. I don't think you have to have a trainer to lose weight, but it has certainly made it easier and more enjoyable for me. I used to go once a week, but now I go every other week - so it doesn't have to be a huge expense forever.
On Monday,I hired my personal trainer for one year of weekly sessions. They are cheap this month so I decided to get while the getting was good.As for me,hubby wants me to get healthy so he was all for it.He is a lean mean fighting machine,on the move for 12 hours per day,so he isn't interested in going.I got one of my sons to join with me for support. Also let hubby know that it is much safer to have a trainer to show you the proper way to do things.I'm accident prone(walk into walls-lol)so it is good for me.I hope your husband sees how important a trainer is. I work with a trainer 3 times a week, I was also the one who thought it was crazy to spend that much money every month. My husband told me "We can either pay that money to the trainer short term and you feel healthy or we can pay it to the doctors and pharmacies for the rest of your life." That made up my mind for me, and it has been 14 months, 3 times a week since.
Everyone could use a trainer! Whether or not we can afford a trainer is always the deciding factor. Convincing your husband that you need/want a trainer shouldn't be too difficult. Who wouldn't want a healthy, fit and happy spouse? Hiring a personal trainer is an investment into your well being. Depending on your goals, working with a trainer isn't forever, and some sort of plan or timeline should be established. If cost is the deciding factor, figure out a way to make it work. Whether that means saving up some extra cash or sacrificing some other expeditures. People with fitness goals are far more successful when working with a trainer compared to working alone.
If your husband supports your decision to hire a trainer, you will have your work cut out for you. You have to be comitted and accountable when you work with a trainer. You also have to be responsible and disciplined. The trainer is only with you for an hour at a time. Your diet and nutrition are a huge part of your success and your trainer has very little, if any, control over your diet. Follow your trainer's advice and instruction and push yourself to the best of your ability. Good luck!
My gym offers 6 sessions for $300. I am going to that first, and then maybe in a few months ill be able yo afford more.
The trainer is the best thing I have ever spent money on. I love going to the gym because he keeps the workouts interesting, never the same thing. Good luck!
The trainer that I had back in 08 was a god send! He gave me sooooo much motivation that I needed to get going I went into his mini boot camp he did and I admit I did outstanding! I dropped down to 285 and was down to 12% body fat which for me was huge!! After that I had the knowledge of what to do in the gym and what to do away from the gym especially in the kitchen!!
Everyone has good suggestions for how to justify the finances. I especially like the one of "pay the trainer or pay the Dr./hospital" its definitely a cost savings in the long run. Yes, its expensive, but it should be, otherwise many people would go but not follow the advice.
For me, I picked up some weekend hours with some new clients. And that pays for it. Otherwise I would have just cut down on clothing expenses and maybe had a "staycation" instead of going off somewhere with the whole family this year. If its important to you, you can probably find a way to pay for it, even for 2 sessions--that will get you started. Do what you can.
Here's another reason. If you aren't experienced with weight lifting, you could really hurt yourself and end up with an injury. That alone is worth the expense.
Show your husband a picture of how you looked before- ask him, isn't it worth 300.00 for me to look and feel like this again? I am actually in better shape than when I got married (and I was in top form back then-8 years ago, 3 pregnancies did it to me as well), and I give quite a bit of that credit to my trainer. Sure, I put the work in, sure I followed the caloric recommendations. But he gave me the tools to do it. I was doing fairly well on my own, but I got an edge from him that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise, he helped me shed the last 15 pounds and put some nice muscle on, I am toned and defined like I have never been before). Its nice to have that support in place too. When you are a mom you get so used to just doing things for everyone else and sort of forgetting about yourself, and its really nice to have someone who listens to you and helps you meet your goals for that entire hour for however many sessions.
I bought 3 sessions initially (I wasn't quite sold on the idea at first), went on my own with his program, am oh so close to my goal, but bought an additional 6 sessions to switch things up, put more muscle on, and help me work around a back injury (unrelated to exercise).
Good luck!
At my gym for the month of January they are offering trainer sessions for $15.00 each. You can use them whenever you want all year long.Thats a good deal and made me decide to buy as many as I did. Cindie
15.00 a session! Oh man, lucky you! They are about 50-60 a session at ours. I would definitely stock up if I were you.
I thought that if one gym had a special that they all did?
I use my trainer 5 days a week, 30 minutes at a time. There's no way I'd push myself to the max every day I go in the gym as hard as the trainer does. I justify the expense by bringing my lunch to work as opposed to eating out (which I used to do every day - at approx. $20 a day at various restaurants). The savings on that alone covers nearly all of the price of my trainer. The trainer I use isn't employed by the gym.
Hi everyone, not the best day here.Yesterday at the gym I met with my trainer. We meet at 3 on Mondays. He is a sub here until the end of February. When I got there he told me to go warm up for 5 minutes on the treadmill,he was on the phone.Fifteen minutes later he showed up.We did a couple things with the weights and a few lunges, then he said-all right see you later. No advice on what to do for the next week,I mean back turned walking away nothing. So today I went to talk to the manager about it and decided that I would wait until the regular trainer comes back to start up with a trainer again. In the meantime the manager is going to call the regular trainer and get some routines from her for me.This made me really sad today. She doesn't know me or my limitations.I just feel lost all of the sudden. Cindie
Cindie, I am sorry to hear about your bad day with the trainer..
