Hi everyone,my name is Cindie.I just joined the gym on Friday. My first day there will be Monday.I'll be using a trainer once a week for a while.I need to lose 80 pounds and get back into shape.Being almost 52 is going to make it harder but I love a good challenge.I've never even been to a gym,I just hope I am not the only one that is overweight.Just wanted to intro myself, have a great night. Cindie
That is the beauty of Anytime Fitness-- there are all sorts of regular folks there-- some overweight, some no longer overweight, all sizes, shapes, colors, fitness levels.
In my years of membership, I have only heard one person say things about stupid teenagers. (Or typical teenager mentality.) This is probably the most inclusive place I've been.
Congratulations on doing something for yourself-- welcome to the boards and to AF, check the tools here out, visit the support groups, ask any questions. Make a list of questions for your trainer, log your food (either here, another online or mobile tool), and your activities, set some goals-- your progress will encourage others, your struggles will be easier, your burdens lighter. Most importantly-- enjoy the journey, have fun!!
Oh cool tell me how it goes..I been thinking of joining too. I wanna go monday and start too, but i been saying this for a while... anything i should prepare for?
Here's a cool link my doctor gave me: http://bwsimulator.niddk.nih.gov/
you can plug in your weight, activity level, what your goal weight is, and how long to achieve it. The simulator will tell you what your calorie intake should be to meet that goal. And you can modify it to see what will happen if you make changes to your activity level. Just remember to set small acheivable goals, even 10 lbs is a goal. Have fun at your Gym, and stick with it!!
Hello cynlyn. Let me tell you that you will not regret your decision. I, just like you, am almost 52. I've got 100+ pounds to lose. This is my first time in a gym since high school - yes 1977! I joined AF on the last day of 2011. I was scared to walk into the door, sweaty palms, heart racing! and have been going every day since. I've lost 5 pounds
I haven't been going long enough to make a habit but long enough to know that
1) nobody really pays any attention to you - they are all there to meet their own personal goals
2) the staff is super nice and want you to be successful and are very encouraging.
3) Hang on every word the PTs say for your first few sessions with them; pay attention to their instructions and advice on how to use the machines
4) make small achievable goals so you will realize the result of your hard work and stay motivated
5) have some fun
6) I want to keep going back
7) track it all, activity and nutrition and be honest about it
Best of luck, you can do it; you got this thing!

Best wishes Cindie! My wife and I joined yesterday and had a great workout. I'm 52 and my wife is 53. Hopefully we will meet at the gym some day.
Ok,so I went to the gym today,I really liked it too.I also met with the trainer. He is a sub here for now.I guess the regular trainer is on maternity leave until the first week of March.Until then I am meeting with him on Mondays at 3.Nobody stared at me or cared that I was there.
Funny,I was so worried about nothing.I'm so happy that I joined the gym and am on my way to a fitter and healthier lifestyle.
Lilli: Just be prepared to be tested. My arms are a bit sore but not real bad.
Cindie
Congratulations Cindie. You are very smart using a trainer since you haven't belonged to a gym before, it is the best way to find out what to do. I am 52 and need to lose 20 pounds. It isn't easy for us older gals but it is worth the work. You will feel so much better after a few weeks that you can't imagine why you didn't start years ago!
Hello. I am new to anytime fitness also. In fact my Gym still has not opened. I am hoping it will be open in the next week or so. Every time my phone rings I am hoping they are calling to tell us to pick up our keys LOL!
Congrats Cindie!!! Keep it up. I just started there too. I am going to be using the porgram where they help you set up the workouts Keep it up. Maybe I will see you there. Yeah when I went everyone stuck to what they were doing and no one was looking at me either. Stick to it!!!
Day 2 at the gym was great.I can't believe that I joined, neither can the people that I've told.I'm trying to go everyday so that I can get used to it.Being retired does have it's advantages-lol.I thought the early am would be empty but everyone else appears to have my idea. It's a small gym in Lambertville,Michigan,in a strip mall. There are only about 100 members total.I actually liked having a group there.
Tabatha: Do you know when the gym by you will be opening?
Have a great night. Cindie
Geez - I thought you were ME talking there - almost 52, first time at the gym. I went for my free PT session today. Loved the trainer and realized I can do more than I thought! I also have a lot of weight to lose but am breaking it down into smaller goals. It's been 8 hours since my session and I can definitely feel the areas I worked on today, but it isn't half as bad as I expected it to be.
Let's continue to cheer each other on as we work toward health and fitness! Good luck to everyone! See you at the gym (or on the chat boards)!
hey crnlyn: I didnt join actually cause i lost my job a while ago.. but today was day 2 of working out.. i just went for a walk 30 mins... combo of jogging it was so hard... i tried to go easy on myself but my legs are sore now
and by the way what did u mean prepare to be tested....
Hi Lilli, I meant tested by a trainer if you joined the gym.He tests your limits so that he can create a workout for you. Also I feel like I go through a test everyday. Will I eat right and will I exercise.
Dianne: I look forward to chatting as we continue on this weight loss journey.I'm finding that working out gives me energy-how do you figure that?
Cindie
I have been going to the gym for almost 2 months now. and let me say it isn't like any gym I have ever been to. I am way over weight. and love going to the gym to work out. and yes there are plenty of people over weight. but it is a great place. I don.t know anyone there. but I enjoy going litening to my music and working out....
Good Luck...
