I have PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome). One the symptoms is weight gain which I avoided my whole life until 3 years ago. I am only 16 pounds overweight but I fear that it will creep up slowly as it has in my family with other cousins who have PCOS. What foods do I need to stay away from? This is a hormone imbalance condition.

Think diabetic. What a diabetic avoids, someone with PCOS should avoid, too, as it also can cause insulin resistance.

Hope you can hold off the weight gain...I gained 80 lbs in 6 months. Went from a size 0 to 18, talk about system shock!

Oh my goodness Krisit! I am so sorry. Were you able to start taking off that weight. Do you have any suggestions about a diabetic elimination diet?

Hello

It depends on how intense you want to take your diet.

All grains, dairy and soy products are out if you are looking for total PCOS super control. So you basically live on fresh vegetables, meat (limited red meat), lots of fish (haddock is best for weight loss) and limited amounts of fresh fruit.

So no gluten, rice, milk, cheese, sauces as they normally contain soy, and anything that comes pre packed or that hasn't "recently fallen from the tree" so to speak!

If you look at it that way its actually a pretty awesome reason to eat only the best foods that are provided my mother nature, become super organic and change your lifestyle for the better.Happy

If you don't want to take the extreme route, start by taken all products that contain gluten out of your diet. This will help tremendously.

Hope that this helps

I just got back the results from my bloodwork ordered by my reproductive endocrinologist and all it showed in regards to my PCOS is that I didn't ovulate. She wants me to go provera to get a bleed but I don't want to take medication. I want to do this naturally and I also am wondering how I can eat right to help with the weight loss . When I take out gluten and dairy and most meats I find myself so hungry and not satisfied from just fruit and vegetables.
