There is a lot of good info on this website. You can search the threads here and find a lot of help. As far as your gym. Just call the manager or owner and ask to schedule your free orientation to learn how to use the equipment. If you have any problems , I can try to help you. I completely agree with Tony S. From an owner’s perspective, we cherish every single member & I personally would find it beneficial to know if a brand-new member signed on, was extremely excited & left an initial assessment deflated. Reach out to your club’s o2i (owner) & express your concern.
Each & every new member, who desires one, receives a complimentary club orientation & equipment/resources overview. In our clubs, we even tailor that overview to what that member has expressed & identified as starting & trending goals. It’s not a workout as that’s best handled by our certified personal trainers, but it’s more than enough to get going depending on the experience of the member.
If you’re a newbie as you stated, I would highly suggest & recommend investing in the services of a CPT –you won’t regret it. Their foremost goal is to get you started on the right path to success as well as prime you for a time when you can go solo or with another non-paid training partner.
As your goal is to, again, use your words, become “less fluffy”, your diet, what you consume & how much you consume, will play a huge factor. You may want to consider connecting with a certified dietician in your area & or plug yourself into the abundant resources on AH offers (diet tracker, workout builder, goal setting, activity tracker, healthy recipes, nutritional articles, etc).

I also agree with talking to the manager and let them know how you feel. I give orientations and I always take members through all the machines that they want to learn. It is important that you feel comfortable on how to use all the equipment.
Angyllina, your confusion and disappointment is completely understandable. You should receive a complete orientation for all of the equipment in your club whether or not you buy personal training. You joined a club that prides itself on properly taking care of members and making sure that everyone feels comfortable and knowledgeable in the club. Since this is not what happened with your consultation, I suggest contacting the manager or owner of your club and requesting a free orientation of the equipment and instruction on the proper use of each piece.
As for a good workout, check out the pre-made workouts that are on this website under the Workout Planner. If you need help with this, just ask, and this whole community will be here to provide assistance.

I joined back in late April and had my orientation...
I love the information I got on the machines, I still have an issue with the fact that I was told that I would get my "personal" results if I got a personal trainer.
I wanted to know my BMI or Fat % or anything at all, and as much as I see why its done that way in a business term, I also see the aspect that the client (member) would want to work even harder if they knew Exactly where they stood in the terms above.
Your club should be able to give you some basic measurements and a BF% reading during your assessment. I would certainly ask the manager to take 5 min. and complete this for you. Understandably, some trainers do charge for this service however, in most cases, the first one should be free and will give you helpful insight on your journey. Please let us know how it goes for you!

My gym has such a fabulous initial assessment/orientation- it is a full hour of which the first 30 minutes are focused on a fitness assessment and the second 30 minutes is a training session. I was even offered a training session when I renewed my membership! I would take the advice of the wonderful people above me- speak with either your club manager or the club owner. Anytime Fitness is really focused on customer service and I am most certain they would rectify this for you. Best of luck!!
