Is stevia in the raw and stevia the same product? Why do I feel bloated and seem to be gaining weight when I use stevia in the raw or splenda? Is sugar bad if used in coffee?

Stevia in the Raw does not include sugar derivatives like Purevia and Truvia do, it has dextrose and malodextrine-- which basically add volume without changing the flavor or adding calories. If you are sensitive to corn or corn byproducts however, SITR could cause bloating/Castro upset. Purevia and Truvia do both have sugar derivatives that can cause bloating and gastric upset also.

Reading the labels and trial and error are probably the best bets.

I started using liquid stevia after I started having severe migranes from what I think was the artificial sugar (equal in my coffee). Liquid stevia is an amazing substitute for sugar in coffee, goes great with half and half. Some good flavors are english toffee, french vanilla, chocolate, chocolate raspberry. All of these can be bought online or from a local health food store. They are all natural and probably the best form of sugar out there for you. They even make great additions to smoothies or pancakes! Stevia in the raw caused some other health probelms when I tried that, probably the bad maltodextrin at work again. Usually they cost about $8-9 online for a 2 or 4 oz bottleHappy

The problem with Stevia-in-the-Raw is that it is mostly dextrose which is a form of sugar, therefore not safe for diabetics. Most consumers assume that Stevia-in-the-Raw is pure stevia, but it is not. Actually it is a misnomer because most of it is dextrose ( a sugar product).
