I saw one post on tools & tech for grip but I'm looking for exercises/routines I can do to actually improve my strength in my hands. Currently I do farmer's walk and have one of those hand squeezing things (looks a bit like a wgt lock). Any suggestions?

Tennis ball is all you need...Wrestling back ground..and grip strength has a lot to do with controlling opponent (almost as much hip position but that is obviously for another discussion)

take the tennis ball and walk it through your fingers tips and thumb and try to pop that little bugger.... keep it on your finger tips and make sure to use all of your fingers ..the overall goal is not to pop a tennis ball but improve hand strength... but how cool of a trick would that be.

I have a ball in my car and a ball in my office desk and a few times a day i still find myself playing with my ....ah ...well.....them....

FatGripz are the new thing for grip, forearm and arm strength (they are the blue rubber ‘insert’ you can attach around any bar). They increase the width (diameter) of the bar which forces the forearms to work harder by holding on to it. You can use them for Pull ups, Bicep Curls, Rows, and even your Farmers walk. There are also bars called 'fat bars' which are the exact same principal except the entire bar diameter is 'bigger' than the standard 'Olympic bars'. These are far more expensive and not many gyms have these.

The wider bar diameter is a far safer way to increase your grip strength when comparing it to wrist curls and reverse wrist curls as these exercises can often lead to overuse injuries including tendonitis.

There is an adapter to the TRX system that helps improve your grip-- it allows you to control the number of fingers and amount of movement-- it's designed to help rock climbers and others that need improved finger/grip strength. My husband used it to improve his overall grip strength and flexibility-- his was reduced by age and gouty deposits. It really helped. If you or your gym has the TRX system, the adapter is only like $20 from TRX.

Thanks for the tips, they are very helpful. I can lift a far amount of wgt and can probably lift heavier with a stronger grip but mostly it's nice to be able to open jars and similiar type daily activities. thanks again,

when you do lifts that require a strong grip, GRIP UNTIL FAILURE. hold on as hard as you can. make every last drop of blood leave your hand with the strength of you grip. make your hands turn pale white. you'll get a better grip. focus on your grip on weights for all lifts.

Good question! Improving grip strength will definitely improve ALL your lifts and enable you to do fantastic feats of strength. Don't take my word for it, check out Jedd Johnson from dieselcrew.com as he's the leader and sole authority in increasing gripping strength in the strength and conditioning world.
