Today I found out I have one 3-millimeter kidney stone in my left kidney and am taking pain medication for it. Aside from feeling like someone punched me in the kidney, I feel OK. Can I exercise? I don't want to lose too much gym time. The doctor says probably don't exercise tonight, but ...

Listen to your doctor. If he said don’t exercise tonight, don’t exercise tonight. There will be no difference if you miss tonight and just get back to it tomorrow night. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water (as I’m sure your doctor already told you) as dehydration is sometimes the cause of kidney stones (and obviously exercise will make you more likely to get dehydrated). The kidney stone should pass by itself in 48hrs and obviously can be very painful, and if this occurs at the gym, well you might wish that you were at home.

Yeah that’s an easy one & a no-brainer; live to fight another day. So many times with training in the gym, we come across these “nagging” injuries where we contemplate whether or not we should train & then we feel torn, well this situation is nothing like that.

86 training until you’re cleared by your doctor.

I would listen to your doctor. Kidney stones can be very painful and exercising may move them around and it could cause some pain. I would wait until your doctor gives you the ok to exercise.

I've had lots of kidney stones. Listen to your doctor. Exercising will probably only make the pain worse. If you feel like you just need to move, go for a light walk. Make sure you're getting a ton of water. Good luckSad
