At AF the other day and it was fairly busy. A guy is on the bench (and had been for close to 30 minutes). He finishes a set...and pulls out his cell phone! He sat on the bench (the only flat bench at our gym) and continued to talk on it for several minutes! I noticed 4 different people on their cell phones that day in the gym! It is one of my biggest pet peeves! I am sorry...but few of us are THAT important that we can't turn our phones off for an hour and workout!
Any other gym pet peeves?!? :o)

I like to watch Man vs. Food if it's on. I don't know why--it doesn't make me hungry. it's actually kind of repulsive and entertaining at the same time.

I always used to go to the gym at my University campus where the fitness centre is quite a bit bigger but a lot busier. Since I'm hardly ever there anymore, I recently joined an Anytime Fitness in my area. There's no turning back now. But I've always had a habit of spraying down my treadmill or stretch mat after each time I use it. I mean, they keep spray bottles and and (paper) towels nearby, so I use them. At my campus gym, everyone does it, but at the AF, I always look like I'm the only one doing this? Don't get me wrong, the staff do an impeccable job keeping things clean, but its my sweat, so should I be the one to clean it up?

Come to the gym in Seymour, IN. It's a great place to be. When it comes to peeves in the gym or anywhere else, address anything that is truly inconsiderate and overlook anything that is just petty.

Im actually pretty sure he didnt care. Our AF doesnt have time requirements on the machines. I pretty much dont worry about what other people are doing, I wipe down equipment before and after anyways. People here are pretty respectful anyways and the management is very on top of the grunters/screamers, they clean the bathrooms, showers and tanning room throughout the day and vaccum. I left the gym I was at due to the cleanliness and have been really impressed here. I dont have time to have pet peeves at the gym, I go in and do what I have too and leave.

People working out in Jeans is horrid! If you can afford the gym then you can afford appropriate attire! I like to see people who are serious about what their goals are in the gym. The ones in jeans just do not speak hey I am serious about being here to me. I also agree with the not cleaning your equipment and excessive cell phone use!

My job (child protection) requires me to be "on-call" sometimes and I have to carry my work phone around with me. I put it on vibrate and keep it in my pocket as much as possible. I'm sure I still annoy some people at my gym though. Sorry Richmond, IN AF people!
My pet peeve though would have to be the guys that come in and grunt and huff & puff like they're in a competition or something. No one cares how much you're lifting guys, calm down! Also they'll just let go of the cables and the weights make a loud bang that is also really annoying!

Turning the TV channel without asking others if they were watching it first.

I have just a couple:
Not wiping down machines, that is just rude and gross
Talking on the phone while 'resting' on the machine. I fully support resting, but when it turns into a 10+ minute conversation... time to give up the machine and return when you're finished talking
Slamming weights, other people want to use them too, let's all try to take care of the equipment, I also understand working to failure, but have a spotter handy
Lound grunting, moaning, groaning, etc. no one cares how much you are lifting, quit wasting energy on 'sounding tough' and use it to improve your sets
These are small things mostly, still love my gym and the trainers/staff =)

This was a nice blog post. (I wouldn't have seen it if one of the owners hadn't posted it on Facebook)

I partciularly liked this:
Even if you're frustrated with feeling like your "home" is getting invaded, you truly don't know the story behind all the new people making the decision to join a gym. For them, the new year marks a fresh start to battle something bigger than just going to the gym or not. Lethargy, shame, injuries, fear, intimidation, food issues, or depression are just SOME of the things these "newbies" are battling. So while you might feel annoyed, these people are trying to conquer something MUCH bigger than a crowded gym space.
For some reason this hit home, perhaps we can all be a little more patient this time of year.
Cheers
