Exercise is Medicine

Exercise is your prescription for health. Regular physical activity can be the best medicine!
Exercise is Medicine Logo

Some call it a no-brainer. Others, a magic bullet. The fact is, groundbreaking research has proven that exercise, at the correct intensity and duration, not only improves the quality of life—it decreases the incidence of disease, chronic health conditions, and obesity. In other words, exercise is medicine!

ExerciseIsMedicine.org

The Exercise is Medicine™ initiative is a shared vision of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Medical Association, along with the support of many other prestigious organizations—including Anytime Fitness® and Anytime Health.

The program is designed to help improve the health and well-being of our nation through prescriptions from doctors, and other healthcare providers, for regular physical activity.

Exercise is Medicine supports the notion that health care providers—especially physicians—should play a vital role in encouraging patients to get healthy, and that fitness professionals should have the hands-on opportunity to carry out doctor's orders within a health club.

Getting Started

Exercise is Medicine is an historic movement, and we invite you to be a part of it! Here’s how:

1. Make an appointment for an annual physical. Be sure to ask your health care provider about physical activity, your abilities and limitations, and what exercises are best for your goals. Essentially, ask for a physical activity prescription!

2. Get started on a physical activity program today! There’s no better time to take charge of your health. If you’re not already a gym member, join an Anytime Fitness health club! Click here to get a FREE 7-day pass for a fitness center near you.

3. Get moving—and keep moving! Plus, share your excitement with others. It’s just more fun to exercise with friends, co-workers, and family members.

This is just a start. To get really involved with this great initiative, go to ExerciseIsMedicine.org. On their website, you will find tons of information on improving your life—and the lives of others—through regular physical activity!
