You need to eat a variety of nutrients to sustain life and fuel your daily activities, but how do you know if you’re getting everything you need in the appropriate amounts? Unless you have your diet analyzed by a professional, there’s really no way to tell. Because of this, people often supplement their diets.

Why take supplements?

There are essentially two main reasons for incorporating supplements—improved health or improved athletic performance.

For health

Supplementing for health benefits is common practice, and many people treat a multivitamin/mineral as an insurance policy—trying to guarantee their body gets what it needs on a daily basis. Others may take a specific nutrient as a preventative measure or as a treatment for a specific health condition. There are many close connections between diet and disease, and many individuals adopt a more is better philosophy, though this isn’t necessarily true for the great majority of supplements. learn more >>

For athletic performance

People also supplement to improve some aspect of athletic performance, whether their focus is on speed, strength, power, agility or some combination. The bigger, faster, stronger attitude is prevalent throughout athletics. Hundreds of supplements have been researched for their performance benefits, and new studies are coming out all the time. learn more >>

What the research says

Supplement studies are often contradictory, with one saying the product is beneficial, another saying it isn’t, and yet another saying more research is needed before a conclusion can be reached. In addition, dietary supplements aren’t regulated as stringently as pharmaceuticals, making it somewhat difficult to determine how useful a particular supplement might be.

Your best bet is to do your own research before starting a supplement routine. And, you can use Anytime Health as your research center.
