Behind the Scenes: Limbs for Life

On a boiling August day, Chuck Runyon and Dave Mortensen arrived in Oklahoma City and had no idea what they were doing. They were given $35.51 each to live on for one-week while they would help three amazing organizations. Limbs for Life was one of them! But what was aired on TV was only part of the story.

The producer’s told Limbs for Life, that they were “Independent film producers working on a documentary about organizations that help others.” They were completely unaware that Chuck and Dave were the co-founders of Anytime Fitness. The producers simply said that Chuck and Dave were “volunteers,” helping to produce the documentary.

Meet Limbs for Life

We are not asking for much…just an arm and leg! We are dedicated to providing fully functional prosthetic care of individuals who cannot otherwise afford it and raising awareness of the challenges facing amputees.

Chuck and Dave spent hours volunteering in Limbs for Life’s office, taking used prosthesis, removing their parts, and organizing them for recycling. They also did miscellaneous work that involved moving office furniture and helping with whatever tasks they needed.

Amy Gallegos, Limbs for Life board member, explained,

“About 3,000 people a week lose a limb and most insurance companies will pay for one prosthesis in a lifetime which is crazy because we couldn’t wear one pair of shoes for the whole rest of our life.”
