I have spoken to a lot of people over the last few years about weight loss. The funny thing is, everyone gives the same reason why they “got healthy”. You know... lost weight, work out, eat differently, etc.
“I did this journey to be a new me, to love myself, and to live longer.”
But, I think people are programmed to say that. I think there are other reasons…
Maybe the reason is to get back at your scumbag ex boyfriend who insulted you all the time. He was going no where in life, yet loved putting you down. He cheated on you and you broke up. Then, you decided to lose weight, put on a hot dress, and then go see him at the Walgreens he works at.
“Wow Betty, is that you?”
“Yeah, just ring up my Aquafina, I have a date…loser!”
Maybe the reason is to be noticed at the bar. You make the commitment to get in shape, and muscles are popping everywhere. You sit down at the bar that you frequent, and a tall blonde sits next to you. Winning.
Maybe the reason is to go bungee jumping.
Maybe the reason is to tell your parents that you can do it. That all the time they spent supporting you was worth it.
Maybe the reason is to wear a mini skirt, something you have not done for years.
Maybe the reason is to finally lift 300 pounds on the bench press.
Maybe the reason is to not be the guy with the “great personality,” but the good looking one.
Maybe the reason is so you can be a dancer in a rap video.
Maybe the reason is so you can see your feet.
The “maybe” possibilities are endless. There is no wrong reason for getting healthy. Some are fun; some are weird, but never are they wrong.
So why did I lose weight?
“I did this journey to be a new me, to love myself, and to live longer.”
Seeing my feet for the first time in years was not so bad either.
