The Double Down Sandwich is Officially Here!
KFC Double Down Sandwich

Let's create a mental picture...

Imagine two slices of bacon and two slices of cheese drenched in some secret sauce, sandwiched between two boneless, fried chicken breasts. What's that? Yes, I'm completely serious. KFC's new gluttonous offering is hitting their stores today.

Leading up to this launch there was even a countdown on the KFC website, ticking off the seconds until this mammoth sandwich launched. The really crazy aspect to all of this is the fact that KFC has been trying to convince people that the Double Down is real—they even say so on their own website. I guess no one would believe that a fast food chain would be bold enough to sell a sandwich with two fried chicken breasts acting as buns. Silly us—we should know better. Even so, you certainly can't expect them to put out a more "nutritionally-conscious" version for the health nuts of the world, can you? Surprise!

Check out the nutrition breakdown of both versions below.

Original Recipe Double Down

  • Calories: 540
  • Fat: 32 gms
  • Sodium: 1380 mgs

Grilled Double Down

  • Calories: 460
  • Fat: 23 gms
  • Sodium: 1430 mgs

The real question is why would KFC come out with such a product? Consumer demand? Probably not. Create a more unhealthy populous than we already have? Not likely. How about create a buzz and cash in on the benefits of increased brand awareness. Getting warmer...

Here's the reality, folks. As much as I'm not a fan of these unhealthy food items and the marketing gimmicks used to sell them, this clearly isn't the most offensive food ever created. However, it certainly won't help your waistline, and given the sodium and fat levels, it's not doing your cardiovascular system much good either. I don't plan on trying one anytime soon, but if you do plan to indulge, please post your review. We'd love to read all about it!

I guess there's only one question remaining: What's next?
